Nurse, I see your point, and I agree with it up to a certain extent. I guess my disagreement comes in at the point of the child. I believe children shouldn't have to suffer just because they have lazy, uncaring, unfit, parents. I firmly believe God looks down in deep sorrow and disgust with us when we allow a child, who is not able to take care of himself or herself or choose his or her parents, to be treated differently than a child who has good parents or comes from a more economically stable family. Children shouldn't have to suffer needlessly.
I work as a school nurse and I see more children on free lunch who have parents who choose not to work and exploit the system than ones who simply can not afford! We have too many people milking the system! I do NOT mind at all helping someone who truly needs it but where I live we have generational medicaid and food stamp families...they grow up learning they do not have to work it will be provided for you. That is wrong! Those kids need something cheaper to eat...pretty soon there are not going to be enough of working to support the ones milking the system and our country!!!
